Waveney Youth entered a team of their U9 PDC players in the Carrow cup held at Carrow road on Wednesday 29th October. The coaches Chris Lark & Craig Sansom and all the players selected had a really enjoyable evening and they played some sensational football along the way. There football was a joy to watch which progressed them all the way to the final.

The team of 1 A team player, 2 B team players and 4 Waveney D team players entertained Horsford first and after a shaky start got in to their stride to win 2-1. Next up was Lakeford by which Waveney ran out comfortable winners 4-0 With qualification certain the team did not play to their potential and with an injury to Joe narrowly lost 1-0 to Norwich United. Up next in the semi final was a very good Sprowston team that really played some great football in the other group. Waveney started brightly and scored 2 fantastic goals but with a minute to go the nerves started to jangle when Sprowston scored direct from a corner but Waveney held on to march in to the final.

In the final they played a very good Old Catton team who are top of the Norfolk league and the first 8 minutes flew by with end to end football. With 2 minutes left Waveney scored a wonderful goal to take the lead but Catton came storming back and levelled with a minute to go. With 2 minutes of extra time Catton attacked and took the lead but straight from kick the ball was passed to Liam who blasted the ball in the corner of the net. Waveney’s nerve could not hold in the penalty shoot out and they lost narrowly 4-3

A great time was had by all and this team who had never played together before and had only been together 5 weeks at the Waveney U9 PDC showed great spirit and football awareness which is a credit to their current team managers and their PDC coaches.

Well done to all the players Aaron, Daniel, Zach, Jack, Liam, Sam and Joe and of course all the parents who braved the very cold conditions to support the team so well.
