| Nine
boys from Waveney's Saturday football club
marched down to Carrow Road to play a 6
a-side game against Watton Juniors F.C. This
is a reward for their dedication to The
Saturday Football Club, turning up every
week in all types of weather for the past
3-6 years. What dedication not only from
the boys but their parents as well. The boys started well with end to end stuff, at times the play was like pinball because the ball was being kicked from pillar to post from both teams due to the slippery pitch conditions and the aura of playing at Carrow Road. The boys started settling down and started playing football. There was nothing between the two teams, then suddenly Watton scored a goal but Waveney kept their heads up. From the kick off Waveney attacked the goal and a good shot from Matthew was saved but the ball rebounded off the keepers hands and fell in the path of Caymen who back heeled the ball for goal but the keeper saved the ball. There was still end to end stuff with really good play from both teams. Good defending from Will and Jordan stopped the Watton attacks. Watton started to passed the ball well and scored their 2nd goal. As half time was approaching Watton put the pressure on but some good goal keeping from Nick kept Watton at bay to the end of the first half.
At
the start of the second half it was much
the same from both teams. Waveney started
to get hold of the ball, passing well with
some good link up play, Caymen
coming close with a goal mouth scramble
and Ryan with his persistence
hunting down the ball and going for goal.
Unfortunately many shots going wide or
being saved. Watton was still attacking
but good tackling from Tyler and
Todd stopped them in their tracks.
Still Watton put the pressure on. With Chrissy
now in goal making some good saves.
Unfortunately a goal slipped by. The final
score was Watton 3 Waveney 0.
A good effort was put in by all the boys. They only train on a Saturday and do not play together as a team. They are made up of players from the A team down to D team. I would like to think that the boys will remember this experience for years to come and relive it when they tell their children about the day they played at Carrow Road. A souvenir photo with Andy Hughes was put in the Norwich programme the following Tuesday. |
