 The
Saturday Football Club has
probably become the largest sporting Club in terms of
participation for boys and girls in Lowestoft on Saturday
mornings. The opening goals in the Club's 8th year were scored
on the 1st September 2007 at Barnards Meadow as the gates were
opened to around 150 boys and girls eager to start kicking a
ball around again after the school holidays..
The Club is open to anyone
between the ages of 5yrs to 16yrs (3yrs - 5yrs are encouraged to
attend the 'Little Lions Club' which is organised
by
Sure Start)
between 10am - 11:30am, regardless of their experience or
ability, and costs £2 per week or £10 for 6 weeks if paid in
advance.
The boys
and girls are split into age groups with girls having the
opportunity to join a girls only group if they would prefer. The
coaches are all qualified to a minimum of F.A. Level 1 and have
been CRB checked.
For every week the children attend, they receive an 'appearance'
and trophies and medals are awarded once the child reach 10, 30,
50, 75, 100 etc. appearances. The trophies are presented every 6
weeks and often coincide with a fun week which are often taken
by
F.I.T.C. coaches from Norwich City F.C. or
Raw Soccer.
As well as
playing football, we often take the opportunity to go and watch
some action at either Norwich City or Ipswich Town, we have even
popped into an England International in the past.
Another
pleasing aspect is the number of dads who having stood and
watched their son / daughter has decided to become involved
themselves, this is something that we appreciate and before we
know it the dad has taking his coaching courses and is a fully
fledged coach ready to put something back into the community for
the bebefit od the local youngsters.
